Georgios K. Alexopoulos is a pediatric and adult neurosurgeon with seven years of training in ACGME-accredited Surgery and Neurosurgery programs in the United States. After graduating from the School of Medicine, University of Patras, he began neurosurgical training in Greece at Papageorgiou General Hospital in Thessaloniki and at “G. Gennimatas” General Hospital of Athens.

He subsequently moved to the United States, where he participated in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and was competitively accepted into a second, full neurosurgery residency (ACGME-accredited) within the programs of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and Saint Louis University in Missouri. During this seven-year period, he developed advanced expertise in neuro-oncology, epilepsy surgery, and the management of complex spinal disorders.

In parallel, he completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School, one of the world’s leading pediatric hospitals, covering the full spectrum of pediatric neurosurgery (congenital anomalies, CNS tumors, hydrocephalus, craniosynostosis, and epilepsy surgery).

He also holds an MSc in Biomedical Informatics & Computational Neurosciences from the University of Maine School of Biomedical Science and Engineering, with focused training in bioinformatics, neuroimaging data processing, and computational methods in neurosurgery. The combination of U.S. clinical training and computational neuroscience makes him unique at a national level, supported by multiple publications in international journals and ongoing research activity.

His clinical practice spans the full spectrum of modern neurosurgery for adults and children, with emphasis on pediatric neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, complex spine disorders, and the use of advanced computational tools & neuroimaging for precise preoperative planning.

Brief Biography

Dr. Georgios Alexopoulos completed his medical studies at the School of Medicine, University of Patras. He then pursued graduate training in the United States, earning a Master of Science (MSc) in Biomedical Informatics & Computational Neurosciences from the University of Maine School of Biomedical Science and Engineering.

His specialist training includes seven years in accredited Surgery and Neurosurgery programs (ACGME-accredited) in the United States. He served as a neurosurgery resident at Saint Louis University (Level 1 Trauma Center), where he worked within the Center for Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Disease under Saleem I. Abdulrauf MD FAANS, gaining substantial experience in complex cerebrovascular cases.

He completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School, where he collaborated with internationally recognized leaders in the field, including Mark Proctor MD, Benjamin C. Warf MD and Michael Scott MD, whom he often cites as one of the most influential and compassionate mentors of his career.
